The Keystone AEA Autism Resource Team was formed to provide educationally based consultative services for school districts and families within Keystone AEA.
It is part of a state-wide cooperative effort to meet the needs of children with autism. Autism team members have received specialized training in order to work with children and young adults who have autism or similar characteristics.
The agencies that are involved with this effort are:
- Bureau of Special Education
- Iowa Department of Education
- Iowa Child Health and Specialty Clinics
- Division of Child Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics
- Area Education Agencies
Keystone AEA Autism Services include:
- Provide information about autism to school teams, parents, and other agencies.
- Consult with teams during the evaluation of a child suspected of being autistic.
- Consult with teams to provide programming strategies.
- Serve as a liaison with the State Autism Coordinator.
- Serve as a liaison to access other state and federal resources.
- Serve as a clearinghouse for new information on autism.
