Project Help

Follow the outline below when faced with a research project.  This outline is based on the Big6 Model by Michael Eisenberg & Robert E. Berkowitz.

Think about:

  1. What is my assignment?

  2. What do I know about my topic?

  3. What do I need to know about my topic?

  4. A graphic organizer that may help.

Plan

  1. What kinds of sources or materials am I going to use?

  2. How many sources do I need?

  3. What keywords can I use for my searches?

  4. When is assignment due?

Start Collecting Information in:

  1. Card catalog

  2. Print reference materials located on reference self (encyclopedias, almanacs, etc.)

  3. Online magazine database and Keystone's (AEA) resources.  You can perform a search and then your teacher or librarian can order the materials.

  4. Online general reference and kid-safe search engines

**Remember to keep a list your the sources!!

Once you have collected your information:

  1. Do I have enough information to complete my assignment?

  2. Am I ready to organize my information into the assignment format?

  3. Have I made a list of sources used?  (Need help citing your sources?)

Evaluate:

  1. How did I do?

  2. Did I meet all the requirements?

  3. Is there anything I would or should do differently on the next research project?
